Kicking off my 100 Day Project with the Mangrove finch - a member of the famous "Darwin finches" group they're found in the beautiful mangroves of the Galapagos. They're also known as Darwin's rarest finch and are the most endangered bird in the Galapagos.
Confined to a single island (Isabela island) and critically endangered with less than 100 individual birds alive and well, they're threatened by black rats who prey on both chicks and eggs. In fact black rats are credited with over 50% of all deaths of these finches.
