100 Day Project Day 11 (Silky Anteater)

11/100 - Silky Anteater

I’ve never heard of these gorgeous creatures before today!! The silky anteater (also called the pygmy anteater) is the smallest anteater in the world growing to only 20cm long! They have prehensile tails which they use to help them navigate the branches of their mid-story forest home.

They’re nocturnal and during the day can be found curled up into little balls of fluff amongst the vines.

The silky anteater is classed as “least concern” by the IUCN (last assessed in 2013) but more recent studies have found that there are several species of silky anteater so some could be more endangered.
