The world's rarest bird! The Madagascar pochard was thought to be extinct in the 1990s until a flock of 13 birds (9 adults and 4 chicks) were discovered in a lake in Madagascar.

It's thought that their population decline was rapid due to the numerous fish species that killed most of their chicks in the late 1940s to early 1950s. In 2018 they were reintroduced into the wild and floating aviaries were installed to protect them.
