Known as the goldfinch of Texas, the golden-cheeked warbler is today's bird! They are the only bird species with a breeding range confined to the state of Texas (only 20 or so acres inside the state).
Due to habitat loss they are classed as endangered by the IUCN. They are dependant on one particular tree - the Ashe juniper - which they use for nesting. Sadly over browsing by deer, goats and cows has degraded their very specific habitat requirements.
