Golden Lion Tamarin

Golden Lion Tamarin

Prompt 2 for #10daysfloraandfauna was tropical! And all I can think of is the gorgeous golden lion tamarins I saw at Bristol Zoo a couple weeks ago.

Golden lion tamarins live in swampy rainforests but are sadly endangered, mostly due to deforestation. In 2008 (the last population count on IUCN's red list) there were only 1,000 golden lion tamarins left in the wild. This is a huge step up from the 1970s where only 200 were estimated to be left in the wild. Out of the current wild population at least 1/3 have been raised in human care and reintroduced back to their native habitat.
