My Business Story
Have I ever told you the story of my business before?
The truth is - I didn't fully start out expecting to be a small business owner! Back in Nov 2016 I was super stressed out working at my old theatre. I was just no longer enjoying the job (though I did love my coworkers) and I literally woke up one day and realised I just didn't want to go to work anymore. After 12 years of working in the industry, I left after working out my notice with no plans at all.
At home and with nothing to do I turned to some new hobbies. I made candles for a bit and then I painted for a bit and then I did embroidery for a bit. At the start of my business embroidery was what stuck with me. I REALLY wanted to love painting but oh gosh I was bad at it. I had also started this instagram just as a way for me to document my hobbies. After making a few dinosaur embroidery hoops I thought maybe I could sell them on Etsy, so I made a business name and drew an awful logo (it was SO BAD) and made an Etsy in early 2017! I made a sale on my very first day and that's when I thought to myself "hey, I could do this!".
Over the years my business has evolved away from embroidery to screen printed tote bags to art prints and now to stationery and pins. I'm sure it'll continue evolving as I grow as a business owner and artist!
Next March my indie business will turn 5!! I feel like I should celebrate but I have no idea what to do so leave me a suggestion in the comments!
