San Francisco Garter Snake
Yesterday I sneaked a little peek at this San Francisco garter snake illustration and asked you all to guess what it was! There were some super fun answers like radical snake and colgate snake so thanks for playing along!
San Francisco garter snakes are a subspecies of garter snakes, just much more colourful! The colours here are actually what they look like (they're utterly gorgeous!). They're quite shy and have been known to swim away when disturbed. They feed on juvenile bull frogs, but in a twist adult bullfrogs actually feed on garter snakes!
These gorgeous snakes are endangered, suffering mostly from habitat loss and also the pet trade where they're popular due to their striking colours.
