Species spotlight : Halimeda ghost pipefish
It's time for a species spotlight!
Now I can't promise that I'm going to be able to do this EVERY Wednesday - but I'm going to try my best! I thought it would be fun to talk about a different, unique or unusual species - hopefully one you haven't heard about before!
This week the spotlight is on the Halimeda ghost pipefish! These amazing creatures are perfectly camouflaged in their natural habitat to mimic the Halimeda algae. Though they're usually green they can also be red depending on the surrounding colours of the algae where it hides itself. Halimeda ghost pipefishes are the smallest of the pipefishes at only 6.5cm long and are generally found facing downwards being absolutely still!
