Vaquita
Day 2 of #endangeredanimalsweek. Today’s prompt is for the rarest marine mammal, the vaquita. The smallest of all the porpoises, they’re sadly often caught as by-catch in illegal finish nets. In autumn of 2018 there were only around 10 individuals left in the world. They are evolutionally totally distinct from other animals so there are no close relatives, once we lose these beautiful animals they’ll be gone forever.
Has anyone seen the new documentary about the plight of the vaquita? Sea of Shadows I believe it’s called. I can’t seem to find where I can view it in the UK so if you’ve seen it let me know!
