World Pangolin Day

World Pangolin Day

Happy World Pangolin Day! If you’ve been following me for a while you’ll know that I love pangolins. They’re the world’s only scaly mammal but sadly all 8 species are endangered with decreasing populations. This is mostly due to poaching as pangolins are the most trafficked animal in the world. They’re sought after for their meat and scales which is used in traditional medicine (even though their scales are the exact same as our fingernails with zero healing effects). Pangolins have recently been in the news as it’s been reported that they could have been the link between bats and humans, passing along the coronavirus. It’s not been entirely proven yet as scientists have said more data is needed.
Helping spread the world about pangolins and their plight has lead to more public awareness and support for scientific research, policy reform and better conservation efforts. So this World Pangolin Day let’s spread the word about these amazing animals that need our help!
